I am on a mission to read a million Kindle books.
Need I say I love reading! My dreams are filled with millions of books, and I wish I had one of those old world libraries you read about, where one just sat all day near a roaring fire and poured over yellowed books.
Avid Reader and Wannabe Author
I grew up reading age appropriate books, graduating from fairy tales and bedtime stories to Nancy Drew and Treasure Island. Jane Austen and the Bronte sisters fascinated me. Until I discovered Alistair Mclean, Frederick Forsyth, Jeffery Archer and so on. Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot got me interested in logic and analytical reasoning. Mills and Boon and Harlequin romances took me on tours to exotic European locales and the wild West. Wodehouse made me laugh and gave me a sense of humor.
Books are indeed a part of us, and to some extent they influence some facet of our personality.
It came as no surprise then that I also wanted to try my hand at writing. My attempts have only been amateurish at best, and maybe the time hasn’t come for me to write the next big novel. But my interest in reading hasn’t diminished. As I take a self imposed hiatus from (my attempt at) fiction writing, I still do want to write. Since I never stop reading new stuff, what better topic to write about than the latest good books?
Although I am not crazy about gadgets, the Kindle is one device I have totally embraced, literally so. Having a Kindle means I can literally carry hundreds of books with me in my bag, and then read anything I like. This is important because I usually read many books simultaneously.
What I love about the Kindle is that it has given a chance to many authors to self publish and make their work available to the whole world. Any author who has sweated trying to send query letters to agents, or sent manuscripts to publishers will know what I mean. The second thing is that it is making many great works available to us free of cost. So now there is no excuse really for not having read the ‘ House of the Seven Gables’ or ‘Tom Sawyer’! And don’t forget the tons of new books that are free everyday as part of an author’s promotion.
Kindle books can be read on your smart phone or computer too. You don’t really need to buy a Kindle if you don’t want to.
What you can expect from ‘A Million Kindle Books’
With this site, I want to bring you personalized reviews of books that I have read. Ok, so no one can like a 100% of what they read. Hence it follows that there may be aspects of some books that I don’t like. Sometimes, I may not like a book altogether. But I will try to be as constructive as possible in my reviews. I know how important a good review is to any author. My reviews will be spoiler free and will reveal as little of the stories as possible. I will also not reproduce the description or abstract from the book’s site. Because you can read it yourself on Amazon before downloading the book!
My review will reflect my take on the book, and why I liked it.
I would like to and will try to include a mix of old and new books, different categories, and best selling as well as budding authors.
All said, I am a regular reader who lives vicariously through a book and through the interesting characters in it. So it follows that any book that takes me to exotic lands, or tells me about a certain era, or adds to my miniscule knowledge of the world will earn high points from me. We are all here to have fun, and enjoy a few hours reading a nice book.
I hope you enjoy reading the books that I have handpicked for you. And I would love to hear from you anytime.
