Ellery Adams is all over my Kindle. I recently read and reviewed two of her books starring Cooper Lee. They were set in Richmond, VA and were as cozy and full of tasty food as you could get. A Killer Collection takes us a 100 miles south to North Carolina. Molly, our heroine is a bit softer but no less brilliant.
Molly Appleby writes for Collector’s Weekly and covers antique shows. Her mother is a collector and so is she. Of course, her mother also sells art and antiques. A kiln opening is coming up, a coveted event, and Molly tags along with Mamma. A nasty man sours the experience for everyone, and soon drops dead. All the people can think of is how they can get their hands on George’s, the dead man’s collection.
George married into money and then was totally engrossed in business. He is a lecher but seems to have a loyal wife. She does an about turn the moment he dies and wants to get rid of anything remotely associated to George. Molly’s friend gets the whole lot, and more interesting developments occur.
Molly lives alone and loves to eat. She has an eye on a coworker but neither dare to ask the other one out on a date. Research leads Molly to find many new threads in the investigation. Things heat up and an older mystery comes into play. Perhaps Molly should have let sleeping dogs lie?
A Killer Collection ambles along at a nice pace and offers a lot of background material or side stories. The main character is likeable and I would definitely want to read more of Molly Appleby.
