Hamish Macbeth is running into women – too many for his liking. There is an artist living up in an isolated cottage making up tall stories. Until she spins one yarn too many. Another jolly artist has taken up painting the Lochdubh scene. He is followed by an angry ex-wife and a calculating agent. Detective Blair has broken his bones and is replaced by a young ambitious woman who has designs on the super. Both of Hamish’s exes are back in the village. For once, Hamish is fed up with all the women that keep turning up at his door.
If you are a Hamish Macbeth fan like me, you will just love reading Death of a Dreamer. If you have no idea who Hamish Macbeth is, it is time you treated yourself to a Hamish Macbeth mystery. Sharp but lazy, the tall red headed Hamish is a constable in the Scottish Highland village of Lochdubh. M.C Beaton has painted a charming vignette of village life in the Highlands with this series. Gossiping old ladies, a haughty aristocratic beauty, a clever psychic reporter, the village seer, bossy women – you will find them all here along with some typical Scottish slang or lingo. Of course, you will also find the occasional dead body or two. And a mystery that is as thick as the swirling mists.
I have only recently discovered M.C Beaton books and I have become a big fan of both the Hamish Macbeth and the Agatha Raisin series. My only regret is not having read these books sooner. I absolutely guarantee you will enjoy reading the Hamish Macbeth mysteries, especially Death of a Dreamer!
