Are You Dying to Get Published? Innocuous words every wannabe author may be asked frequently, but they take on a whole new meaning in Judy Fitzwater’s humorous mystery. Jennifer Marsh is a character that will grow on you and thankfully, we can meet her again via other books in this series.
Jennifer Marsh has plunged into full time writing. Apart from some part time waitressing jobs for her caterer friend, she writes all the time. Her eight unpublished manuscripts are proof! But alas, she gets turned down repeatedly, especially by the nasty and odious literary agent Penney Richmond. Jennifer has an epiphany while watching TV and decides that she needs to be famous. Or infamous! She firmly believes that once she’s the media’s darling, she will easily be able to publish her books.
Jennifer Marsh makes an elaborate plan to murder the odious agent. But she chickens out at the last minute only to learn to her chagrin that someone beat her to it. Police place her at the scene of crime and arrest her. Unpublished manuscripts have to take a back seat as Jennifer has to prove she’s innocent. Her writers’ group pitches in with crazy ideas and crazier support tactics. Sexy Sam believes in her and helps her solve the case on the condition that she take up a temp job. Between warding off amorous advances of her old lecher boss, and solving more than one mystery, Jennifer Marsh has her hands full.
Mystery lovers with a sense of humor will love reading Dying to Get Published. There are many comic situations in the book making this a light and enjoyable read. Authors and writers to be will empathize with the main character. The publishing industry is still hard to crack even though self publishing has come on the scene. But a book deal is still the icing on the cake.
