Life’s a Beach Then You Die has a fantastic cover showing a, well, you guessed it, a beach. I have had this book on my TBR list almost since I bought my Kindle. And now I have finally read it.
As the title suggests, the book is a murder mystery. We have Max Fried, yes, that’s his name, who has recently retired to Florida with his wife. The couple has lived in the harsh Northern winters all their life and have skimped and saved dreaming of retirement in Florida. Now all they do is sleep, drink, surf, walk and just have a good time. they roam around in ‘commando’ mode, which means they mostly just wear swim suits. Barely a few months into this dream life, Max is approached by a guy for a case. Max has been a computer forensics guy, and he is very reluctant to work again. But there is a distressed widow in the picture, and so he gives in.
Max’s life is turned upside down as soon as he takes the case, and his wife goes off to her sister’s ina huff. This is one thing i found hard to believe. How can an otherwise loving wife just abandon her husband of several years when she knows that his life is in danger? Ok, so she keeps tabs via phone, but shouldn’t she have stuck on the scene?
Max, that wily Max, inadvertently has some backup on his iPod. And then since his life is in danger anyway, he goes around trying to solve the mystery. Things get curiouser and curioser as more characters are introduced. I had never thought that this mystery would turn out to be so deep. It is named after a beach, after all! (lol) The book surprised me and so did the plot.
Life’s a Beach then you Die is a great beach read, or anytime read really for mystery lovers. Check it out – it is free for Kindle many times.
