Murder with Puffins is only the second book in the Meg Langslow mysteries by Donna Andrews. Hemmed in by relatives who have taken over Yorktown, Meg and Michael flee to a remote island off the Maine coast. Or so they think, until they realize it’s ‘flyover’ season and the island is bursting at the seams with bird watchers. Not to mention a hurricane that has docked the ferry service. And Meg’s family who are somehow already there on the island. So much for a romantic getaway!
The hateful Victor is destroying the island and its ecosystem and is found dead. Meg’s father and aunt are the top suspects. Meg launches an investigation amidst the persistent rain and power cuts, tagging Michael along. Why is there a dead puffin where Victor’s body was found the day before? Did Meg’s mother really have a thing for Victor? What is her Dad capable of in a jealous rage? Everyone has a motive for killing Victor, but who done it, really? With the hurricane going strong, the murderer is trapped on the island and no one is safe!
Murder with Puffins is a fun read that is full of suspense. Donna Andrews keeps us guessing till the end. Meg’s family is a hoot and we love reading about their various escapades as much as the murder mystery. Meg Langslow is one of my favorite women detectives. And Murder with Puffins is a great way to get acquainted with her!
