Priced to Move promises to take you gallivanting round the world in search of expensive gemstones. Andrea Adams, a gemologist working for a top gems dealer in Manhattan, has been a globe trotter for three years, scouring the world for the best of gems. All she has to show for them is a bunch of ulcers.
Her sick Aunt Weeby is just the excuse Andrea needs to pack up and move to Louisville, Kentucky and her three story colonial home. Andrea is roped in to anchor a show on the Shop Till You Drop network, that her aunt owns. She meets Max, who is too good looking to be serious about anything. Sparks fly between them, and the audience laps it up. While this is happening, a man is found dead in the studio’s restroom. Andrea is shocked to discover it is someone she has done business with. Inexplicably, the man had brought a gift for her, a parrot! The police question Andrea but she has a strong alibi.
What takes Andrea, Max and her aunt’s geriatric friend to Thailand? It’s a high stakes game and you are along for the ride. Andrea’s Aunt Weeby is a unique character, and we are not all blessed with such a whimsical but caring aunt. Andrea herself seems torn between following on the career path she has given a few valuable years of her life, and a sensible pace of life in her hometown with her beloved aunt.
Priced to Move took me into the hitherto unknown world of gemstone trade. The characters were funny and likable. The story took unexpected, sometimes bizarre turns keeping me turning the pages. This book is definitely worth a read for mystery lovers. Gina Aiken has indeed delivered a masterpiece that will keep us on the edge of our seats.
