Women sleuths are all the rage in the world of indie mystery books. And we find one in Castle Cay in the guise of Julie O’Hara, body language expert. A Florida native, Julie is shocked by the death of her dear friend Marc Solomon and flies to Boston for his funeral. Not convinced that everything about Marc’s death sounds right, Julie decides to dig a bit deeper to find the truth.
Julie met Marc when she was just starting out in her job. Related to the boss, he is an up and coming artist with a secret lifestyle. Julie was deeply in love, and dreaming of happily ever after. Fate intervened and things didn’t turn out as expected. Meanwhile, the police find more clues in Marc’s Key West house and are about to arrest his partner. Julie goes to Key West and on to Castle Cay, the mysterious island owned by Marc’s family which no one has visited in several years.
Being on Castle Cay brings back unpleasant memories for Julie. Is the island jinxed, or are there more sinister forces at work? Julie will have to overcome her greatest fear to investigate further and get justice for Marc.
Castle Cay is well written and keeps the reader interested till the end. The solution is not obvious and the plot is deeper than I thought it would be. Castle Cay is an enjoyable read for mystery lovers.
