Seven Exes are Eight Too Many by Heather Wardell is a treat for reality show lovers. And surprisingly, even for someone like me who hardly ever watches them. There is a big cast of characters, many sub plots and a main plot that is definitely not run of the mill. Seven exes definitely spell entertainment with an E.
Madeline – Cora or MC as she prefers to be known by is single and deemed desperate by more desperate wives. In an alcohol induced stupor, she signs in for a reality show that promises to find her prince, and is duped. Just like a bunch of other men who are reeled in by a TV channel on one pretext or another. MC has to live on a deserted island without ‘facilities’ along with seven of her exes. And she is pitted against yet another ex – the one that got away! MC battles bugs and clashing egos to stay in the game and win the jackpot of a million dollars.
The author has done a great job with creating the different characters, and stories that go with each of them. The interactions between these are hilarious. The plot is interesting and you are on edge, waiting to see what happens next. But this is a good kind of anticipation, different from the one you might feel while reading a mystery.
