Regency romance has become my favorite genre, and What a Devilish Duke Desires enticed me with its alliterative magic!
The Sinful Scoundrels series has produced a good book or two, and this time it is all about Harry Norcliffe who has recently become a Duke. He is peeved when everyone congratulates him because he is still mourning his uncle, the late Duke. Lucy is a poor girl who works a seamstress and lives with her aged grandmother. She stumbles into a handsome stranger one dark night and things are never the same.
Lucy works many jobs but her dream is to have her own dance studio one day. She works herself to the bone earning a few pennies a day. She lands a job as a dance teacher to a kind lady from the ton. Meanwhile, Harry and Lucy meet in the park and strike an acquaintance. Both like each other and enjoy each other’s company until Lucy learns he is a Duke. She chafes at the deceit and tries to distance herself but the attraction is too strong.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Norcliffe wants to see her son married and she plans a dance competition that will span the Season. She hopes to set Harry up with some rich debutante. But seems like she doesn’t know her own son. Lucy gets hired as a dance teacher and soon it is evident that Harry has feelings for her. Evil forces try to break the two apart.
Will love triumph in the end?
What a Devilish Duke Desires is what fantastic romance is all about. Indeed, I think the two are synonymous. Regency romance lovers will take this one in their stride.
