Pat O’Neil works for the Sheriff in a small Washington community. His boss Bill has seen him through a bad time and is not convinced that Pat’s wounds have healed. He orders him to take a break and visit his niece Allie and his parents at their inn in the Montana mountains. Pat is also to look after Allie and protect her from a dangerous stalker. Allie is a gifted blacksmith who also teaches a hobby class at the highschool.
Pat and Allie sense some sort of attraction but both are weary of relationships. Pat gradually settles down with Allie, June and her adopted son. The grandparents also like him and the locals start accepting him as their own.
After a few idyllic weeks, Allie gets the dreaded phone call from her stalker which means that he is in Northstar and has discovered her hideout.
As a romance blooms between Pat and Allie, the stalker becomes more aggressive. Pat’s past also threatens to make things worse. Both go through a trying time and their love undergoes a trial by fire.
Mountain Angel has its serious moments. You can’t get too engrossed in the magic of the mountains because danger is always lurking around the corner. Some of the psychological aspects portrayed keep this from being a feel good book. There are many lighter moments too such as the tight friendship between Allie and June, their simple life where they work hard and enjoy playing cards or watching an old movie. The community potluck will make you wish you were there. So will the views and vistas of the majestic mountains.
